Mrs. Julia Sanchez, girls' P.E. teacher, died in 1970 of breast cancer. If you have any memories of her teaching career to share, please post them as a comment on this profile.
Mrs. Sanchez was without a doubt the best teacher I ever had. And this is because she became a freind to me. She was the only teacher I ever had who hugged me every time I checked into PE. I have tears in my eyes as I write this because I loved her like a Mom. She always had a warm smile and kind words for me and never told me I was a clutz like another PE teacher I had in junior high. Hee, hee.
God took her way too soon.
Love to you Mrs. Sanchez and I hope to see you in heaven some day. I know you're there, and I hope I get there too.
Mrs. Sanchez was an inspiration to me, as somewho who was straight forward, understated, but strong. She showed us all respect, and had a big heart. She showed integrity, and did not pass gossip.
She was my track coach and swimming coach, and encouraged all of us. After high jump in 1969, I was shocked to find that the school eliminated the girls track team. I had certainly planned to continue, becasue I loved to jump, and I loved the camaraderie that Mrs. Sanchez helped to foster among the girls.
I have thought of her many times over the years. A fabulous woman.
